Small and micro ammonites are members of the ammonite family that are characterized by their miniature size, with adult shells ranging from a few millimeters to several centimeters in diameter. These fossils are often found in marine sedimentary rocks, particularly in limestone and shale deposits.
Small and micro ammonites were present on Earth throughout much of the Mesozoic era, from the Triassic period through the Cretaceous period. They lived in shallow marine environments and were likely an important part of the marine food chain.
Despite their small size, small and micro ammonites are highly valued by collectors and paleontologists for their intricate morphology and scientific value. These fossils provide important insights into the evolution and diversification of ammonites over millions of years, and they are often used to reconstruct ancient marine environments and to study changes in the Earth’s climate and geology over time.
Some of the most well-known small and micro ammonite species include the Parapuzosia, the Crioceratites, and the Hildoceras. These fossils are often found in association with other marine fossils, such as bivalves, belemnites, and other ammonites, and they continue to be an important area of study for paleontologists and scientists alike.
