This spectacular 11″ Durotrigensia fossil ammonite is a rare and impressive example from the Middle Jurassic Inferior Oolite Formation of the Jurassic Coast. It was discovered on 17 January 2025 by our experienced team members, Alister and Alison, at Burton Bradstock, Dorset, UK, and has been professionally cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison.

The ammonite shown in the photos is the exact specimen you will receive. A 1cm scale cube is provided for sizing reference. This specimen has been hand-selected for its excellent preservation, size, and aesthetic appeal.

Scientific & Geological Information:

  • Genus: Durotrigensia (described by Buckman, early 20th century)
  • Family: Graphoceratidae
  • Superfamily: Hildoceratoidea
  • Order: Ammonitida
  • Geological Stage: Bajocian (Middle Jurassic)
  • Formation: Inferior Oolite
  • Zone: Parkinsonia Zone (tentatively correlated)
  • Biozone: Parkinsonia subzone
  • Depositional Environment: Warm, shallow marine carbonate platform with oolitic and bioclastic deposits
  • Morphology Features: Large, evolute shell with moderately wide umbilicus, well-defined ribbing, and slightly compressed flanks. The robust ornamentation and size make it a visually striking display fossil.
