12″ Skirroceras (Stephanoceras) macum Fossil Ammonite – Middle Bajocian, Jurassic: Burton Bradstock, Dorset, UK – Alice Purnell Collection – Certified Authentic

£480.00

This spectacular 12-inch ammonite fossil belongs to the species Skirroceras (Stephanoceras) macum, from the Middle Bajocian Stage of the Jurassic Period, approximately 170 million years ago. It was unearthed from the Inferior Oolite Group at the iconic fossil-rich site of Burton Bradstock, part of the renowned Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in Dorset, United Kingdom.

Skirroceras (Stephanoceras) macum is a striking example of a Middle Jurassic ammonite, known for its robust, planispiral shell with pronounced ribbing and tubercles. These ammonites thrived in warm shallow seas and are part of the broader Stephanoceratidae family—cephalopods related to modern squids and octopuses. Their rapid evolutionary changes and wide distribution make them important index fossils for Jurassic stratigraphy.

This museum-quality specimen is part of the highly regarded Alice Purnell Collection, known for its curation of fine and scientifically significant fossil material. The fossil has been carefully cleaned and professionally prepared, revealing the exquisite shell detail and morphology across its full diameter.
