Description
4.5″ FULLY ROOTED Genuine Spinosaurus Dinosaur Tooth Fossil – Kem Kem Beds, Tegana Formation, Aptian Stage, Cretaceous: Kem Kem Basin, Morocco
A truly rare find — this 4.5-inch fully rooted fossil tooth belonged to Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, a massive and uniquely semi-aquatic dinosaur of the Cretaceous period. Recovered from the prolific Kem Kem Beds of the Tegana Formation in the Kem Kem Basin of Morocco, this specimen dates to the Aptian stage of the Early Cretaceous, approximately 113 to 100 million years ago.

- Zone/Biozone: Kem Kem Compound Assemblage Zone
- Depositional Environment: Riverine/deltaic ecosystem with seasonal floodplains and coastal lakes — ideal for preservation of large vertebrate fossils
Morphology & Features: This Spinosaurus tooth is a standout example due to its fully intact root:
- Crown and root completely preserved — rarely found due to root fragility
- Conical and slightly compressed tooth structure — ideal for catching fish
- Smooth, non-serrated edges — a diagnostic feature of Spinosaurid teeth
- Vertical ridges on the enamel surface
- Natural coloration in hues of brown, red, and ochre from mineral fossilisation
Notable: Teeth with roots still attached are extremely rare due to the delicate nature of root structures during fossilisation and excavation. A fully rooted tooth from Spinosaurus aegyptiacus is an exceptional specimen with significant collector and scientific value.
Spinosaurus was the largest known theropod, possibly growing up to 15 metres in length. With a crocodilian skull, aquatic adaptations, and a sail-like spine, it represents one of the most distinctive predators in Earth’s history.
