This stunning 4″ Androgynoceras Fossil Ammonite is a genuine specimen from the Green Ammonite Beds, located on the iconic Jurassic Coast at Stonebarrow Cliff, Charmouth, near Lyme Regis, Dorset, UK. Dated to the Lower Lias Formation during the Jurassic period, this ammonite represents a piece of ancient history from approximately 200 million years ago.
The Androgynoceras genus is known for its coiled, ribbed shell, with intricate detailing that reveals its evolutionary adaptation over time. Ammonites like this one were marine mollusks, related to modern cephalopods such as squids and octopuses, but they became extinct around 66 million years ago during the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event.
This particular specimen was discovered by our team member Alister on 18 October 2024 and has been meticulously cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison to ensure its natural beauty and scientific integrity.
