An extraordinary 6.5″ fossil ammonite of the species Perisphinctes (Dichotomoceras) antecedens, sourced from the renowned Jurassic deposits near Tulear, Madagascar. This specimen dates back to the Oxfordian stage of the Late Jurassic period and is characterised by its large size and well-defined ribbing—traits that make it a standout in any collection.
Perisphinctes antecedens belongs to the family Perisphinctidae, within the superfamily Perisphinctoidea and order Ammonitida. This specimen, associated with the subgenus Dichotomoceras, displays fine bifurcating ribs and a slightly evolute shell, providing classic examples of Oxfordian ammonite morphology.
