This specimen dates back to the Oxfordian stage of the Late Jurassic period and is characterised by its large size and well-defined ribbing—traits that make it a standout in any collection.

Perisphinctes antecedens belongs to the family Perisphinctidae, within the superfamily Perisphinctoidea and order Ammonitida. This specimen, associated with the subgenus Dichotomoceras, displays fine bifurcating ribs and a slightly evolute shell, providing classic examples of Oxfordian ammonite morphology.
