Description
An impressive 4.75-inch A-grade fossil of Parkinsonia parkinsoni, discovered by our expert fossil hunters Alister and Alison on 17 January 2025, from the famous Inferior Oolite strata at Burton Bradstock, part of the Jurassic Coast, Dorset, UK.
This ammonite has been carefully prepared, cleaned and treated by Alison and is presented exactly as shown in the photograph — the actual specimen you will receive. Its intricate shell pattern and strong ribbing make it a visually striking and scientifically valuable piece.
Parkinsonia parkinsoni is one of the most iconic Middle Jurassic ammonites. It displays a robust, evolute shell with bold, sinuous ribs crossing the venter — a morphology that makes it highly recognisable and a zonal index fossil for the Parkinsonia parkinsoni Zone.
This species is commonly used to date rocks in the Bajocian Stage of the Middle Jurassic and is often associated with well-oxygenated shallow marine carbonate environments, as seen in the Inferior Oolite Formation.
