Description
This listing features a genuine and well-preserved ALLIGATICERAS sp. fossil, a striking ammonite from the Upper Callovian Stage of the Middle Jurassic Period (approximately 164 to 161 million years ago). This specimen was sourced from the marine sedimentary layers of Zalas, Poland, a notable locality for Middle Jurassic ammonite preservation.
Geology & Origin:
During the Upper Callovian, the area of present-day Zalas was submerged beneath a warm, shallow sea, ideal for the proliferation of ammonite species. Fine sedimentation allowed for rapid burial and excellent preservation of ammonite shells such as those of Alligaticeras. These layers now yield detailed and highly collectible marine fossils.
