Anacleoniceras iridescent fossil ammonite with mother of pearl shell – albian, cretaceous – madagascar – genuine certified specimen

£24.00

This listing features a stunning and naturally iridescent Anacleoniceras fossil ammonite, preserved with its original mother of pearl (nacre) shell. This rare and eye-catching ammonite hails from the Albian stage of the Early Cretaceous Period, approximately 113 to 100 million years ago, and was discovered in Madagascar, a world-famous site for beautifully preserved ammonite fossils.

Anacleoniceras is a genus of extinct ammonite cephalopods, marine molluscs that once dominated the world’s oceans. These creatures had coiled shells and tentacles, and are closely related to modern-day squid, octopuses, and cuttlefish. What makes this particular fossil exceptional is the stunning natural iridescence retained in the shell – a feature that reflects vivid shades of red, green, blue, and gold under different lighting conditions due to the preservation of the nacre layer.

This specimen has been carefully cleaned and polished to enhance its lustrous appearance while preserving the fine details of the original fossil. A beautiful addition to any fossil collection, interior décor setup, or educational display.

The photograph shows the exact specimen you will receive. A 1cm scale cube is included for reference. Each fossil comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, verifying it as a 100% genuine and natural specimen.

Cretaceous Information

The Cretaceous Period (145–66 million years ago) was the final era of the Mesozoic, marked by the dominance of dinosaurs and the rise of flowering plants. It had a warm, greenhouse climate, with high sea levels that created vast shallow inland seas. Marine life flourished, including mosasaurs, ammonites, and rudist reefs, while the land was ruled by iconic dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Spinosaurus. Mammals and birds diversified, and insects thrived. The period ended with the mass extinction event, likely caused by an asteroid impact, wiping out the dinosaurs and paving the way for the rise of mammals in the Cenozoic.
