Description
Offered here is a visually captivating multi-fossil block featuring a well-preserved Canavarella ammonite alongside a classic Jurassic belemnite, both embedded in natural matrix. This specimen was discovered by our own expert team members Alister and Alison on 30 April 2025 from the world-famous Jurassic Coast at Burton Bradstock, Dorset, UK.
This fossil originates from the Inferior Oolite Formation, a Middle Jurassic marine limestone unit. Canavarella is a lesser-known but distinct genus of ammonite, with smooth or faintly ribbed whorls and moderately involute coiling. It is typically associated with:
- Order: Ammonitida
- Superfamily: Hildoceratoidea
- Family: Hammatoceratidae
- Geological Stage: Bajocian (~170 million years ago)
- Depositional Environment: Warm, shallow marine setting with carbonate sedimentation (oolitic limestones)
The belemnite included in the block provides additional context to the rich marine ecosystem of the Jurassic seas, making this specimen not only aesthetically appealing but also educationally significant.
This multi-fossil block has been expertly cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison. The image shows the actual specimen you will receive, and a 1cm scale cube is included in the photo for reference. Please see images for complete sizing.
All of our fossils are 100% genuine specimens and come with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), guaranteeing the fossil’s origin and authenticity.
An ideal piece for fossil collectors, educators, or anyone looking to own a tangible piece of Earth’s ancient history.
