Description

Choffatia kontkiewiczi Ammonite Fossil

Callovian Fossil from the Middle Jurassic

This genuine Choffatia kontkiewiczi ammonite fossil comes from the Włodowice area in the Silesian Voivodeship of Poland. It dates to the Callovian Stage of the Middle Jurassic Period, giving it a clear scientific identity, geological age and collecting locality. It is a carefully chosen natural specimen for ammonite collectors, geology students, palaeontology enthusiasts and anyone creating a display of authentic prehistoric life.

The photographs show the actual fossil you will receive. The form, colour, preservation, surrounding matrix and natural details visible in the images belong to this exact specimen, so every photo should be viewed closely when considering its individual character and condition.

The Choffatia kontkiewiczi Ammonite

Choffatia is an extinct ammonite genus. Ammonites were marine cephalopods whose familiar coiled shells were divided internally into a series of chambers. As an ammonite grew, the animal occupied the enlarged outer living chamber while the earlier chambers remained behind within the coil. Their abundance, diversity and changing shell forms make ammonites among the most important and recognisable fossils of Jurassic marine rocks.

This specimen is identified as Choffatia kontkiewiczi. Choffatia is associated with the varied perisphinctid ammonites found in Jurassic strata. Features considered when examining ammonites can include the overall shape of the coil, the amount by which successive whorls overlap, the breadth of the shell, the shape of the opening and the pattern of ribs or other ornament. Please use the photographs as the definitive visual guide to the particular morphology and preservation displayed by this individual fossil.

Geological Age and Polish Locality

The Callovian is a stage of the Middle Jurassic and represents a time more than 160 million years ago. Ammonites flourished in the seas of this interval and evolved through many distinctive forms. Because ammonite groups changed through time and were widely distributed in marine environments, they are valuable for comparing the relative ages of sedimentary rocks and studying Jurassic biostratigraphy.

The stated origin of this specimen is the Włodowice area, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. This locality gives the fossil a precise geographical context and connects it to the Jurassic geological record of central Europe. A named species from a documented region can add particular interest to a systematic fossil collection or educational display.

Fossils are natural geological objects. Surface variations, incomplete portions, attached matrix, mineral deposits and differences in texture may reflect burial, fossilisation, later weathering and preparation. Such features are part of the specimen’s history and help make every genuine fossil unique.

Display, Study and Collecting

This Choffatia kontkiewiczi ammonite is well suited to a fossil cabinet, natural history collection, study set, office, classroom or geology-themed display. It may also make a thoughtful gift for a fossil collector, student, amateur palaeontologist or admirer of authentic objects from deep time.

For full sizing, please refer to the photographs. The pictured specimen is the actual carefully selected fossil supplied, not a representative example or substitute. The images provide the best guide to its dimensions, visible shell detail, matrix and overall preservation.
