Ammonites are one of the most recognisable fossils around the world due to their familiar spiral shape. They were marine based, present between 240 – 65 million years ago. They are the most  popular fossil for collections and found all over the world. Some ammonites could reach up to 2 metres in size. Children love collecting them, and places like Lyme Regis in Dorset becomes busy during the summer months with many people trying their luck at finding impressions in the rocks of their own ammonites.
These stunningly beautiful Ammonites have been sliced in half and polished to expose the amazingly colourful inner chambers of the fossil.

The specimen has been sliced and polished, revealing the intricate inner chamber structure of this prehistoric marine creature.

Despite their snail-like appearance, ammonites were marine molluscs more closely related to modern-day squid, octopuses, and cuttlefish. Their shells consisted of a series of connected chambers used for buoyancy control, allowing them to navigate through ancient oceans.

The genus Cleoniceras is particularly well-known for its beautifully ribbed shell and detailed chambered structure, which becomes clearly visible when the fossil is sliced and polished.
