Description
Introducing an exceptional DESMOCERAS iridescent fossil ammonite, featuring a beautiful natural Mother of Pearl shell preservation. This ancient treasure dates from the Lower Albian Stage of the Early Cretaceous Period (approximately 113 to 110 million years ago) and was discovered in the fossil-rich deposits of Maritano, Madagascar.
Geology & Origin:
During the Lower Albian, Maritano was a shallow marine environment, ideal for marine life like ammonites. After these creatures perished, they were rapidly buried under fine sediments, fossilizing over millions of years. In rare and remarkable instances, the original aragonite shell layer survived, resulting in the spectacular iridescent “Mother of Pearl” effect that is highly prized by collectors.
