Description
Offered for sale is a breathtaking Desmoceras fossil ammonite showcasing stunning natural iridescence from a preserved mother of pearl shell layer. This incredible specimen originates from the Lower Albian stage of the Early Cretaceous Period, approximately 113–100 million years ago, and was discovered in Madagascar, one of the world’s richest sources for beautifully preserved ammonites.
Desmoceras was a fast-swimming cephalopod that thrived in the ancient tropical seas of the Cretaceous. Known for their smooth, gently coiled shells, these ammonites often show spectacular nacreous (mother of pearl) preservation, creating a shimmering rainbow-like surface.
