Description
Discover a breathtaking specimen: an authentic DESMOCERAS VALEDORSELLA OKUSCHENSIS iridescent fossil ammonite, preserved with exquisite Mother of Pearl shell detail. This remarkable fossil dates back to the Aptian Stage of the Early Cretaceous Period (approximately 125 to 113 million years ago) and was discovered in the renowned fossil beds of Tulear, Madagascar.
Geology & Origin:
Tulear, Madagascar, was once covered by warm, shallow seas, perfect for ammonites to flourish during the Aptian age. Upon death, their shells were quickly buried under fine sediments, preserving their intricate structures. In rare cases such as this, the nacreous aragonite layer fossilized intact, resulting in the stunning iridescent “Mother of Pearl” effect that radiates shimmering colors when exposed to light.
