Name: Diplomystus sp.
Species: Fish
Age: Eocene Period
Location Found: USA

Diplomystus is a prehistoric genus of freshwater clupeomorph fish that was present in the Eocene period, around 56 to 33.9 million years ago. They are distantly related to modern-day extant herrings, alewives, and sardine‬s, and like them their strongly upturned mouths suggest that they fed in open water rather than feeding off the bottom. Diplomystus are often found in association with other Eocene fish from the Green River Formation,‭ ‬particularly the genus Knightia.‭ ‬In fact fossil evidence suggests that Diplomystus preyed upon Knightia!

ACTUAL AS SEENThe image shows the EXACT unique specimen you will receive. Measurements are as accurate as possible, though be aware measuring precise dimensions can be difficult from irregular shaped items. Whilst we portray colours as close to life-like as we can, colours will vary if taken in sunlight, indoors, from monitor to monitor and device to device. The scale cube in the photo is 1cm to give a visual size.
