Description

## Fissilobiceras fissilobatum Ammonite

This genuine Fissilobiceras fissilobatum ammonite comes from the Inferior Oolite Group at Burton Bradstock, Dorset, a renowned British Jurassic Coast locality. The exact fossil in the photographs is the specimen supplied, selected for its natural preservation and classic coiled ammonite form. Ammonites were marine cephalopods, related to modern squid, cuttlefish and nautiluses, and their chambered shells make them important fossils for understanding ancient seas.

## Middle Jurassic Geology

The specimen is Middle Bajocian in age, within the Middle Jurassic, roughly 170 million years old. At this time the Dorset region lay beneath warm, shallow marine water. Carbonate sediment accumulated on the sea floor, forming the oolitic limestones of the Inferior Oolite Group. These beds preserve evidence of a diverse ecosystem of molluscs, echinoids and other invertebrates that flourished in Jurassic seas.

## Ammonite Features

An ammonite shell grew in a spiral and was divided into chambers. The animal lived in the outer chamber while the internal divisions contributed to buoyancy control. The changing shapes, ribs and suture patterns of ammonites allow specialists to recognise species and trace marine life through time. Fissilobiceras fissilobatum is a desirable collector fossil because it combines identifiable scientific character with the enduring visual appeal of a naturally formed ammonite shell.

## Dorset Provenance

Burton Bradstock is valued internationally for its fossil-bearing strata and association with the Jurassic Coast. A fossil from this famous locality makes an engaging addition to a cabinet, geology display, educational collection or gift for a natural-history enthusiast. Its British provenance and precise Jurassic context give the specimen lasting scientific interest.

## Authenticity and Presentation

This is a genuine fossil specimen and includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card. Please see the photographs for full sizing, condition and surface detail. The images show the actual carefully chosen fossil that you will receive, not a representative stock image. Natural mineral texture and weathering make every fossil individual, while its coiled form preserves a direct connection to life in a Middle Jurassic sea.
