Description
This is a genuine Cylindroteuthis puzosiana belemnite fossil from the Oxford Clay Formation, Oxfordian stage of the Jurassic period, discovered in Willington, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom. Belemnites were an extinct group of marine cephalopods closely related to modern squid and cuttlefish. Unlike ammonites, their internal shell structure, known as the guard, fossilised over millions of years, making them an important part of the Jurassic fossil record.
This specimen exhibits excellent preservation, showcasing the characteristic elongated, bullet-shaped guard with well-defined surface features. Belemnites played a crucial role in prehistoric marine ecosystems and are highly sought after by collectors, researchers, and fossil enthusiasts.
