Description
This is a genuine Cylindroteuthis puzosiana belemnite fossil from the Oxfordian stage of the Jurassic period, discovered in Bedfordshire, United Kingdom. Belemnites were extinct marine cephalopods closely related to modern squid and cuttlefish. Unlike ammonites, they had an internal shell called a guard, which fossilised over millions of years and is a common find in Jurassic marine deposits.
This well-preserved specimen exhibits its characteristic elongated, bullet-shaped guard, with clear surface details. Belemnites played a significant role in Jurassic marine ecosystems, serving as a crucial part of the food chain. Their fossils are highly valued by collectors, researchers, and those interested in prehistoric marine life.
