This fossil was discovered at Swanage, Dorset, UK, on 20 September 2024 by our team member Alister and has been meticulously cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison to ensure its excellent condition.
Scutes are the bony, armor-like plates that formed part of the protective outer layer of ancient crocodiles. These durable scutes provide fascinating insight into the defense mechanisms of these prehistoric reptiles, which thrived during the Cretaceous period, around 145 million years ago.
