Description
Discover a striking Fossil Crocodile Tooth from the Cretaceous Period, unearthed from the famous Kem Kem Basin, Morocco — a globally recognised fossil site known for its rich vertebrate diversity.
This fossil comes from an ancient crocodilian, likely a member of the Elosuchus genus or a similar crocodyliform, which inhabited the fluvial plains of North Africa approximately 95–100 million years ago (Cenomanian Stage of the Late Cretaceous). These semi-aquatic predators shared their ecosystem with dinosaurs like Spinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus.
Morphological Features:
- Conical, pointed shape typical of predatory crocodyliforms
- Well-preserved enamel and distinct curvature indicating feeding adaptation
- Some specimens may show serration-like wear patterns from prey handling
Geological Information:
- Location: Kem Kem Beds, Taouz, Southeastern Morocco
- Age: Late Cretaceous (~95–100 million years ago)
- Stage: Cenomanian
- Depositional Environment: Fluvial river systems and floodplains
- Order: Crocodyliformes
- Superfamily: Neosuchia (tentative)
