Description
A superb Fossil Fish Tooth embedded in matrix, collected from the world-renowned fish, reptile, and coprolite bed at Aust Cliff, near Bristol, UK. This unique fossil was discovered by our dedicated team members Alister and Alison on 07 April 2025, and has been carefully cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison.
This specimen originates from the Westbury Formation, a fossil-rich member of the Penarth Group, dated to the Rhaetian Stage of the Upper Triassic, approximately 208–201 million years ago. Aust Cliff is famous for its exceptional preservation of Late Triassic vertebrates and trace fossils.
The tooth likely belongs to a primitive predatory fish, such as Saurichthys or another neopterygian, which were common in the marginal marine ecosystems of the Triassic. The specimen preserves a distinct tooth crown, often slender and pointed, suitable for piercing prey.
This is a genuine and one-of-a-kind fossil displayed within its original clay-rich matrix, offering important insight into vertebrate life and sedimentation during the Late Triassic.
Professionally photographed with a 1 cm scale cube, the image shows the exact fossil you will receive.
