Description
This listing features a genuine and well-preserved Molopophorus fishii fossil, a marine gastropod from the Sooke Formation, part of the Carmanah Group, collected at Muir Creek beach on southwestern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. This specimen provides an excellent representation of Miocene marine mollusc diversity.
Geology & Origin:
The Sooke Formation, part of the Carmanah Group, consists of shallow marine sandstones and siltstones laid down during the Miocene Epoch of the Neogene Period (approximately 23 to 5 million years ago). This temperate marine environment supported a diverse assemblage of molluscs, including the moon snail-like Molopophorus fishii. Exceptional fossil preservation is due to rapid burial in fine marine sediments, which protected delicate shell structures.
