Description
This listing features a genuine and well-preserved Neverita reclusiana fossil, an attractive marine gastropod from the Sooke Formation, part of the Carmanah Group, collected at Muir Creek beach on southwestern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. This specimen is a fine example of Miocene marine life from a fossiliferous coastal environment.
Geology & Origin:
The Sooke Formation, within the Carmanah Group, consists of shallow marine sandstone and siltstone deposits from the Miocene Epoch of the Neogene Period (approximately 23 to 5 million years ago). These marine environments supported a variety of molluscs, including the moon snail Neverita reclusiana. Sedimentation in the Muir Creek area helped preserve shell material with remarkable clarity, making it a sought-after fossil locality in British Columbia.
