Atlasaurus differs from Brachiosaurus relative to the estimated length of the dorsal vertebral column (assuming 12 vertebrae, 3.04 m (10.0 ft)), in having a proportionately larger skull, a shorter neck (with at least 13 cervical vertebrae, shorter and more uniform in length than Brachiosaurus), a longer tail and more elongated limbs (humerus to femur ratio: 0.99; ulna to tibia ratio: 1.15). The teeth are spoon-shaped and have denticles. The lower jaw of Atlasaurus is about 69 centimetres (27 in) long, the neck was about 3.86 metres (12.7 ft) long, the humerus 1.95 metres (6 ft 5 in) long, and the femur about 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) long. It has been estimated at 15 metres (49 ft) in length, and 22.5 tonnes (22.1 long tons; 24.8 short tons) in weight.

Description

This listing features a genuine fossilised bone slice from Atlasaurus, a Middle Jurassic sauropod dinosaur, discovered in the rich fossil beds of Morocco. This rare slice is part of a long-extinct dinosaur species known for its unique skeletal proportions and incredible size.

Atlasaurus imelakei, named after the Atlas Mountains where it was first discovered, lived approximately Middle Jurassic period (~168 to 163 million years ago). Unlike other sauropods, Atlasaurus had proportionally shorter necks, longer legs, and a more robust skull. These anatomical differences made it more agile and possibly better suited for browsing vegetation at different heights compared to its relatives like Brachiosaurus.

Estimated to reach 15 metres (49 feet) in length and weighing over 22 tonnes, Atlasaurus possessed a powerful build. The vertebrae, femur, and humerus were massive—its femur alone reached about 2 metres (6 ft 7 in). This sauropod had spoon-shaped teeth with denticles, suggesting a herbivorous diet consisting of tough plant matter.

This bone slice is a cut and polished cross-section of authentic Atlasaurus bone, showing the intricate structure and mineral replacement that occurred during fossilisation. It serves as a striking piece for any collector, educator, or palaeontology enthusiast.
