Deltadromeus, meaning Delta Runner, was a dinosaur that lived about 95 million years ago and was believed to be an early offshoot of the Theropod line that led to developing Raptors in North America. They had unusually long, slender limbs suggesting it was built for speed & agility, making it one of the fastest dinosaurs to have ever existed. They measured around 26 feet long and weighed up to 4 tons, the adults may have approached the size of Tyrannosaurus!

Deltadromeus was a meat-eating dinosaur, and because of its size and speed, it would have been a formidable predator. Its teeth were thin with prominent serrations, used for stripping the flesh of its prey, rather than crushing the bone. If a tooth fell out, another would grow in its place.

ACTUAL AS SEEN: The image shows the EXACT specimen you will receive. The specimen has been carefully hand selected and photographed. Measurements are as accurate as possible, though be aware measuring precise dimensions can be difficult from irregular shaped items. Whilst we portray colours as close to life-like as we can, colours will vary if taken in sunlight, indoors, from monitor to monitor and device to device. Once this specimen is sold, we will update this listing with new similar selected item, with a new photo and dimensions.

Description

Deltadromeus agilis Raptor Tooth from the Kem Kem Beds, Morocco
This striking fossil raptor tooth attributed to Deltadromeus agilis originates from the famous Kem Kem Beds of the Tegana Formation in the Kem Kem Basin, Morocco. Dating to the Upper Cretaceous period, specifically the Cenomanian stage approximately 100–94 million years ago, this specimen represents a powerful predatory dinosaur that once roamed North Africa. The fossil shown in the photograph is the exact specimen you will receive, carefully selected for its preservation, shape, and collector appeal.

Geological Setting – Kem Kem Beds, Tegana Formation
The Kem Kem Beds are among the most renowned fossil-bearing deposits in the world, representing a vast fluvial and deltaic system that existed during the Cenomanian stage of the Late Cretaceous. These sediments consist primarily of sandstones and siltstones deposited by ancient river channels, floodplains, and estuarine environments. This region supported a diverse ecosystem of large theropod dinosaurs, crocodilians, fish, and pterosaurs.

The Tegana Formation, in particular, is known for preserving vertebrate fossils within channel deposits, where remains were transported and buried by river systems. These conditions contributed to the preservation of durable elements such as teeth, which are frequently recovered from this formation.

Fossil Type and Taxonomic Identification
Deltadromeus agilis is a theropod dinosaur belonging to the order Saurischia and the clade Theropoda. First described by Sereno and colleagues in 1996, this genus is known for its long, slender limbs and adaptations for speed, suggesting it was a fast-moving predator. While skeletal remains are relatively rare, teeth attributed to Deltadromeus provide important evidence of its feeding behaviour and ecological role.

As a carnivorous dinosaur, Deltadromeus possessed sharp, blade-like teeth designed for slicing flesh, making them highly distinctive and desirable fossils.

Morphological Features and Predatory Adaptations
This tooth exhibits the classic morphology of a theropod predator, with a laterally compressed, recurved shape ideal for gripping and cutting prey. The edges of the tooth may display fine serrations, known as denticles, which enhanced its ability to tear through muscle and tissue. These serrations are a key identifying feature of carnivorous dinosaur teeth and reflect highly specialised feeding adaptations.

The enamel surface is typically smooth but robust, designed to withstand the stresses of repeated use. The curvature and tapering point of the tooth highlight its efficiency as a predatory tool, offering insight into the hunting strategies of this agile dinosaur.

Depositional Environment and Preservation
The fossilisation process occurred within a dynamic river system where remains were transported and buried in sediment. Rapid burial in sand and silt helped protect the tooth from erosion and scavenging, allowing it to be preserved over millions of years. Mineralisation gradually replaced the original material, resulting in a durable fossil that retains its original structure.

The Kem Kem Beds are especially noted for producing well-preserved theropod teeth, making them a key source of information about Cretaceous predators.

Authenticity and Certificate of Guarantee
This fossil is a genuine specimen and includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee card. Each fossil is carefully handled and prepared to preserve its natural integrity, ensuring you receive a high-quality and authentic piece.

Ideal for Collectors, Display, and Study
A Deltadromeus agilis tooth fossil is a highly desirable addition to any dinosaur collection. Its association with one of the lesser-known but fascinating theropods of the Kem Kem ecosystem makes it both unique and scientifically interesting. Whether displayed as a centrepiece or included in a broader fossil collection, it offers a tangible connection to the age of dinosaurs.
