ABOUT TROPAEUM GIGAS

Tropaeum gigas is one of the largest and most impressive ammonites found within the Lower Greensand of southern England. Living during the Early Cretaceous, approximately 121–125 million years ago, it inhabited warm shallow seas that covered much of southern Britain.

This species belongs to the family Douvilleiceratidae, a group recognised for their robust shells, broad whorls and powerful ribbing. Mature specimens are exceptionally scarce, particularly examples reaching this size and level of preservation.
