Scaphitid ammonites like Hoploscaphites exhibited unique, hooked shell shapes that likely influenced their buoyancy and swimming abilities. They lived in shallow marine seas, coexisting with a diverse range of Cretaceous marine life, including mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, and other ammonites.
