This well-preserved specimen displays the ribbed, coiled shell characteristic of the Lobosphinctes genus, making it an excellent addition to any fossil collection.

This ammonite comes from the Middle Oxfordian, a stage of the Upper Jurassic, dating back approximately 160 million years. During this period, much of Europe was covered by shallow tropical seas, where ammonites thrived. Fossils from the Oxfordian stage are vital for biostratigraphic dating, helping geologists study and correlate Jurassic rock formations.

Lobosphinctes belonged to the subclass Ammonoidea, an extinct group of marine mollusks closely related to modern squids and octopuses. Ammonites used their chambered shells for buoyancy control, allowing them to navigate ancient oceans as free-swimming creatures. Their ribbed shells not only provided protection from predators but also reinforced structural integrity.
