This fossil was discovered on 06 October 2024 by our experienced team members, Alister and Alison, and has been carefully cleaned, prepared, and treated by Alison to reveal its full natural beauty and anatomical detail.

Lytoceras fimbriatum is part of the family Lytoceratidae, characterised by its highly evolute, planispiral shell with smooth to faintly striated whorls and a wide umbilicus. It lived during the Early Jurassic period and is known for its nektonic, fast-swimming lifestyle. This genus is critical to understanding the evolutionary lineage of Lytoceratid ammonites.

The fossil comes from the Beacon Limestone, a unit of the Lower Jurassic sequence, associated with the Toarcian Stage. It represents a depositional environment of offshore marine basins with good oxygenation, known for high-quality fossil preservation.
