Dated to the Upper Albian Stage of the Cretaceous Period (~105 million years ago), this specimen is a rare and scientifically valuable example of marine life from the ancient Western Interior Seaway.

The period ended with the mass extinction event, likely caused by an asteroid impact, wiping out the dinosaurs and paving the way for the rise of mammals in the Cenozoic.
