Description
This listing features an authentic Mosasaur tooth fossil from the Cretaceous Period, discovered in the fossil-rich beds of Morocco. These incredible teeth belonged to the ferocious marine reptiles known as Mosasaurs, apex predators of the Late Cretaceous seas that ruled the oceans approximately 100–66 million years ago.
Mosasaurs were air-breathing reptiles, not dinosaurs, and were more closely related to modern-day monitor lizards and snakes. They grew up to 50 feet (15 metres) in length, with a long streamlined body, powerful flippers, and jaws lined with razor-sharp conical teeth perfect for catching fish, ammonites, and even other marine reptiles.
These reptiles were highly adapted for life at sea. Unlike turtles which must return to land to lay eggs, Mosasaurs were so fully marine that they gave birth to live young, spending their entire life in water. Their fossils have been found all over the world, with Morocco being one of the richest sources due to its ancient seabed deposits.
The teeth offered in this listing are typically from Liodon anceps, though some may be from Mosasaurus beaugei or Platecarpus ptychodon, all members of the Mosasauridae family.
Whether you are a fossil enthusiast, collector, or educator, this Mosasaur tooth is a striking reminder of a time when giants ruled the prehistoric seas.
