Presenting a well-preserved and authentic NEOHARPOCERAS sp. fossil ammonite, an exceptional marine fossil from the Albian Stage of the Early Cretaceous Period (approximately 113 to 100 million years ago). This rare specimen comes from the rich fossil beds of Menabe, Madagascar.

Geology & Origin:

The Menabe region of Madagascar, during the Albian period, was submerged beneath shallow, nutrient-rich seas that supported a wide array of marine organisms. Ammonites like Neoharpoceras thrived in this environment. After their death, they were rapidly buried under sediment, which over millions of years preserved their shells in exquisite detail. These layers are now some of Madagascar’s most important fossil sites.

The Cretaceous Period (145–66 million years ago) was the final era of the Mesozoic, marked by the dominance of dinosaurs and the rise of flowering plants. It had a warm, greenhouse climate, with high sea levels that created vast shallow inland seas. Marine life flourished, including mosasaurs, ammonites, and rudist reefs, while the land was ruled by iconic dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Spinosaurus. Mammals and birds diversified, and insects thrived. The period ended with the mass extinction event, likely caused by an asteroid impact, wiping out the dinosaurs and paving the way for the rise of mammals in the Cenozoic.
