This stunning Parkinsonia ammonite fossil originates from the Inferior Oolite formation of the Middle Jurassic (~174-170 million years ago) and was discovered along the Jurassic Coast in Burton Bradstock, Dorset, UK. Parkinsonia is a genus of ammonites recognized for its bold ribbing, deep whorls, and intricate suture patterns, making it a prized specimen for collectors and fossil enthusiasts.
This particular specimen was discovered by our own team members, Alister and Alison, on 17 January 2025 and has been carefully cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison to ensure its structural preservation and aesthetic appeal.
Ammonites like Parkinsonia thrived in the warm, shallow seas of the Jurassic period, playing a crucial role in the marine ecosystem. The Inferior Oolite limestone of Dorset is internationally renowned for yielding exceptionally well-preserved marine fossils, offering invaluable insights into prehistoric ocean life.
