Description
This listing features a stunning and genuine Pleuroceras spinatum ammonite fossil, discovered at Thorncombe Beacon, Dorset, UK, and dating to the Upper Toarcian Stage of the Jurassic Period (~180 million years ago). This striking fossil showcases the classic ribbed and strongly keeled morphology of the Pleuroceras genus and is an excellent example of British ammonite preservation.
Pleuroceras spinatum is a well-known species of planispiral ammonite, characterised by its sharp radial ribs and flattened whorls. These ammonites lived in the shallow seas that covered much of Europe during the Early Jurassic, and their fossils are often found in ironstone nodules or preserved in fine-grained shale and limestone.
This particular specimen was discovered on 10 April 2024 by our in-house field team members Alister and Alison, and was professionally cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison, ensuring maximum visibility of its features and long-term preservation.
