The image shows the actual specimen you will receive. A 1cm scale cube is included for reference. Please see the photo for full sizing and preservation quality.

Geological Context & Depositional Environment:

During the Lower Albian, Madagascar was located along the margins of the Tethys Ocean and submerged beneath warm, shallow marine waters. These conditions were perfect for the deposition of fine-grained calcareous sediments that preserved marine organisms, especially ammonites, in exceptional detail.

The fossil beds of Tulear are part of a globally significant sequence used in correlating Albian stratigraphy, often associated with the Douvilleiceras mammillatum ammonite zone in broader global stratigraphic frameworks.

Morphology & Notable Features:

Cleoniceras cleon is known for its smooth, compressed shell with gently rounded flanks and a narrow venter. When cut and polished, these fossils reveal beautiful internal chambers, intricate suture lines, and subtle mineralisation patterns that provide a unique glimpse into the internal architecture of ammonites.

This 3″ specimen has been carefully sliced and polished to a mirror finish, revealing the stunning natural geometry and mineral fill within the fossil.

Authenticity & Guarantee:

All of our fossils are 100% genuine specimens and include a Certificate of Authenticity. This piece has been professionally prepared and polished to highlight its natural beauty and scientific interest.
