Description
Authentic Prionolobus Ammonite Fossil – Lower Triassic – Lozère, France
About the Fossil:
This rare and well-preserved Prionolobus ammonite fossil originates from the Lower Triassic period (~252-247 million years ago) and was discovered in Lozère, France. Prionolobus is a genus of early ammonites, representing some of the first cephalopods to emerge after the Permian-Triassic mass extinction, which was the most significant extinction event in Earth’s history.
These ammonites thrived in early Mesozoic seas, playing an important role in the post-extinction recovery of marine ecosystems. The shell of Prionolobus is characterized by its ribbed structure and coiled design, which provided buoyancy control and protection from predators.
