Description

Fossil Identification

This listing features a Promicroceras marstonense fossil ammonite from Marston Magna, Somerset, UK. The specimen is presented as a sliced, high-grade polished slab, offering a distinctive display format for fossil collectors, geology enthusiasts and anyone interested in Lower Jurassic palaeontology. Its identification is associated with Marston Marble, the Obtusum Zone, the Lower Lias and the Lower Jurassic.

Geological Significance

The Lower Jurassic is an important interval in the geological record and is widely recognised for its marine fossil assemblages. Ammonites are extinct marine cephalopods with chambered shells, and their fossils are particularly valued in geology because successive forms can assist with the subdivision and correlation of sedimentary strata. Promicroceras marstonense is therefore an appealing fossil identification for collectors who value both the visual character of a polished specimen and its geological context.

Marston Magna, Somerset

This specimen is connected with Marston Magna in Somerset, UK, and is identified with Marston Marble. The additional geological designation places it within the Obtusum Zone of the Lower Lias, Lower Jurassic. These locality and stratigraphic details give the fossil a clear connection to the geology of Somerset and make it suitable for educational collections, display cabinets, geological study and curated ammonite assemblages.

Polished Slab Display

The sliced slab format reveals the fossil within a prepared polished surface, making it well suited to presentation in a home collection, office, classroom or museum-style display. The polished finish gives the specimen a refined appearance while retaining its identity as a geological specimen. Its high-grade presentation makes it an attractive choice for collectors seeking a distinctive Lower Jurassic ammonite fossil connected with a named zone and locality.
