This is a large, stunning 11-inch ammonite fossil of the rare species Metasigaloceras rusticum, dating to the Lower Turonian stage of the Late Cretaceous. It was discovered in the rich marine chalk and limestone beds of the Penly and Biville-sur-Mer area in France—an important region for mid-Cretaceous marine fossils.

This depositional setting is known for producing exceptionally well-preserved fossil specimens, making it a key location in Cretaceous palaeontology.
