This listing features a RARE and impressive 17″ Lytoceras Fossil Ammonite, sourced from the Ait Ouarhitane Formation near Alnif, Morocco, a globally recognised site for Jurassic marine fossils.
Lytoceras is a genus of extinct ammonite molluscs from the family Lytoceratidae, belonging to the superfamily Lytoceratoidea and the order Ammonitida. This genus is well-known for its distinctive, loosely coiled, evolute shells and highly ornamented whorls. These cephalopods thrived in the oceans during the Jurassic Period, particularly from the Toarcian to Callovian stages, and are often interpreted as fast-moving nektonic carnivores.
