RARE 3.5″ Ceratites Spinosus Fossil Ammonite – Middle Triassic, Neckar, Germany – 100% Genuine with Certificate of Authenticity
SGD $147.36
This Ceratites spinosus fossil ammonite is a rare and outstanding specimen from the Middle Triassic period, discovered in the Neckar region of Germany. The Ceratites genus is known for its distinctively ribbed and spiny shells, and this particular specimen offers a glimpse into the marine ecosystems of the Triassic period. Its stunning preservation makes it an excellent addition to any fossil collection, particularly for those focused on Triassic ammonites.
Geological Information:
Geological Stage: Middle Triassic (Approximately 247 to 237 million years ago)
Depositional Environment: The Middle Triassic marked a period of ecological recovery after the Permian-Triassic extinction event. The Neckar region, once a shallow sea, preserved a variety of marine life, including Ceratites, which thrived during this time. Fossils from this region help provide valuable insights into the recovery of life in the oceans, as well as the early evolution of ammonites.
Biozone: Fossils from the Middle Triassic biozone are highly valued for their role in understanding the biodiversity and ecological dynamics that followed the end-Permian mass extinction. The Ceratites spinosus ammonite is one of the characteristic species of this period, contributing to our knowledge of Triassic marine ecosystems.
Fossil Features:
Family: Ceratitidae
Super Family: Ammonoidea
Order: Ammonitida
Morphology: The Ceratites spinosus ammonite is characterized by its ribbed, spiny shell. The shell exhibits a distinct spiral structure with spiny ribs that radiate outward from the center of the whorl. The well-preserved suture lines and the unusual ribbing pattern are key features of this species. The ammonite has a moderately coiled shell, which is typical for members of the Ceratites genus.
Zone: The fossil was found in the Middle Triassic zone, offering insight into a critical time period in the history of ammonite evolution.
Notable Details:
This fossil is 100% GENUINE and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring its authenticity and value.
The specimen has been carefully selected for its excellent preservation. The photograph shows the actual specimen you will receive, ensuring full transparency in your purchase.
Scale Rule: The scale cube shown in the photo represents 1cm, allowing you to accurately gauge the size of the fossil. Full sizing details are available in the photograph.
Condition:
This Ceratites spinosus fossil ammonite is in excellent condition, showcasing its distinctive ribbing and spiny structure. The fossil has been carefully cleaned and treated to ensure its best display for collectors or museum-quality exhibits. This fossil is an excellent representation of Triassic ammonites and is an essential piece for anyone interested in marine life from the Middle Triassic period.

Triassic Information
The Triassic Period (252–201 million years ago) marked the beginning of the Mesozoic Era, following the Permian-Triassic mass extinction, the most severe extinction event in Earth's history. The climate was hot and dry, with vast deserts and little polar ice. Life slowly recovered, leading to the rise of the first dinosaurs, pterosaurs (flying reptiles), and early mammals. Reptiles, including large archosaurs (ancestors of crocodiles and dinosaurs), dominated both land and sea. In the oceans, ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs thrived alongside ammonites and early coral reefs. The first true conifers and ginkgo trees spread across the land. The period ended with another mass extinction, paving the way for the Jurassic and the golden age of dinosaurs.
