RARE 3″ Ogygiocarella debuchi Fossil Trilobite – Llanvirnian Series, Lower Ordovician, Builth Wells, Wales – Genuine Specimen with COA

£180.00

This is a rare and well-preserved 3″ Ogygiocarella debuchi fossil trilobite, dating to the Llanvirnian Series of the Lower Ordovician (~470-460 million years ago), discovered in Maesgwynne, Builth Wells, Powys, Wales. Ogygiocarella debuchi was a marine arthropod that thrived in the warm, shallow seas of the Ordovician period, and is a well-documented species from the famous Builth Inlier fossil beds of Wales.

This species belongs to the Asaphidae family and is known for its broad, flattened cephalon (head), well-defined thoracic segments, and smooth, streamlined exoskeleton. Trilobites like Ogygiocarella played a crucial role in ancient marine ecosystems and are highly valued by collectors due to their scientific and historical significance.

The Ordovician period saw a major diversification of marine life, including trilobites, brachiopods, and early mollusks. Fossils from the Builth Wells area are particularly significant as they provide insight into the early evolution of trilobites in ancient ocean environments.

This museum-quality specimen is a fantastic addition to any fossil collection, making it ideal for collectors, researchers, and enthusiasts of British paleontology.
