This listing is for a Rare 4.75″ Fossil Ammonite (Costileioceras sinoni) from the Lower Bajocian Stage of the Middle Jurassic, discovered near Caen, France.

  • Shell Form: Moderately involute coiling with a strong ribbed ornamentation, typical of Costileioceras.
  • Ribs: Prominent ribs cross the flanks and may bifurcate towards the outer whorl.

  • Size: Large specimen at 4.75″, making it a particularly fine example.

 

Depositional Environment:

During the Bajocian, the Caen region was covered by a shallow epicontinental sea with warm, nutrient-rich waters. Fine-grained sediments deposited in these marine settings preserved ammonites in excellent detail.
