Geological Context & Depositional Environment:

During the Albian, Madagascar was submerged beneath a warm, shallow marine environment rich in nutrients and biodiversity. This tropical sea was part of the vast Gondwanan continental margin, with sedimentation favouring preservation of marine fauna such as ammonites, belemnites, and marine reptiles.

The fine-grained limestones and marls of this region helped to preserve ammonites like Puzosia saintoursi in excellent condition, often with intricate shell features intact.

Morphology & Notable Features:

Puzosia saintoursi is noted for its relatively involute shell with smooth to slightly ribbed whorls, a moderately rounded venter, and a deep umbilicus. It typically shows gentle growth lines and a gracefully coiled profile, making it a highly aesthetic species.

This specimen stands out due to its strong symmetry, completeness, and natural mineralisation patterns typical of Madagascar’s fossiliferous beds.

Authenticity & Guarantee:

All of our fossils are 100% genuine and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Each piece is professionally cleaned, stabilised, and selected for its scientific and visual quality.
