Description
This is a rare and well-preserved 6.5-inch Cylindroteuthis puzosiana belemnite fossil from the Oxford Clay Formation, Oxfordian stage of the Jurassic period, discovered in Willington, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom. Belemnites were extinct marine cephalopods related to modern squid and cuttlefish. Unlike ammonites, they had an internal shell called a guard, which fossilised over millions of years, making them an important part of the Jurassic fossil record.
This specimen displays excellent preservation, showcasing its characteristic elongated, bullet-shaped guard with well-defined surface features. Belemnite fossils provide key insights into the evolution of cephalopods and their role in ancient marine ecosystems.
