This is a rare, well-preserved Cenoceras inornatum fossil nautilus from the Bajocian Stage of the Middle Jurassic (~170 million years ago). This specimen was discovered in Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, within the Inferior Oolite Formation, a well-known Jurassic marine deposit.

Cenoceras inornatum belongs to the extinct group of nautiloid cephalopods, which were marine predators during the Jurassic period. Unlike ammonites, which have intricate suture patterns, nautiloids have a simpler coiled shell with smooth growth lines. They used their internal gas chambers to regulate buoyancy, allowing them to navigate Jurassic seas in search of prey.
