RARE Ceratites Riedeli Fossil Ammonite – Middle Triassic, Badgaudershiem, Germany – 100% Genuine with Certificate of Authenticity
£36.00
This Ceratites riedeli fossil ammonite is a rare and remarkable specimen from the Middle Triassic period, discovered in the Badgaudershiem region of Germany. The Ceratites genus is known for its smooth, coiled shells, and Ceratites riedeli is no exception, making it a highly sought-after fossil for collectors and researchers alike. This fossil provides valuable insight into the marine ecosystems that existed during the Triassic period, helping to shed light on the early stages of ammonite evolution.
Geological Information:
Geological Stage: Middle Triassic (Approximately 247 to 237 million years ago)
Depositional Environment: During the Middle Triassic, the Badgaudershiem region was once a shallow marine environment. The Middle Triassic period was marked by the recovery of life following the Permian-Triassic extinction event, with ammonites like Ceratites riedeli thriving in the warm, shallow seas. Fossils from this period are crucial in understanding the biodiversity of the oceans as life began to rebound.
Biozone: Fossils from the Middle Triassic biozone offer critical information on the marine recovery following one of Earth’s most significant extinction events. The Ceratites genus, in particular, serves as an important marker for understanding the evolution of ammonites during this time.
Fossil Features:
Family: Ceratitidae
Super Family: Ammonoidea
Order: Ammonitida
Morphology: The Ceratites riedeli ammonite has a smooth, coiled shell with well-defined suture lines and slight ribbing. The shell is characterized by its elegant spiral shape and distinctive ribbed features. Its well-preserved surface allows for a clear view of the suture lines, which provide insight into the ammonite’s growth pattern.
Zone: This fossil was discovered in the Middle Triassic zone, which places it in an important geological time period when marine ecosystems were recovering and ammonite species were diversifying.
Notable Details:
This fossil is 100% GENUINE and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, guaranteeing its authenticity and value.
The specimen has been carefully selected for its outstanding preservation. The photograph shows the actual specimen you will receive, ensuring full transparency and clarity in your purchase.
Scale Rule: The scale cube shown in the photo represents 1cm, allowing you to accurately gauge the size of the fossil. Full sizing details are available in the photograph.
Condition:
This Ceratites riedeli fossil ammonite is in excellent condition, showcasing its smooth shell and well-preserved suture lines. The fossil has been carefully cleaned and treated to ensure its preservation, making it an ideal addition to any Triassic ammonite collection or for anyone interested in the marine life of the Middle Triassic period.

Triassic Information
The Triassic Period (252–201 million years ago) marked the beginning of the Mesozoic Era, following the Permian-Triassic mass extinction, the most severe extinction event in Earth's history. The climate was hot and dry, with vast deserts and little polar ice. Life slowly recovered, leading to the rise of the first dinosaurs, pterosaurs (flying reptiles), and early mammals. Reptiles, including large archosaurs (ancestors of crocodiles and dinosaurs), dominated both land and sea. In the oceans, ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs thrived alongside ammonites and early coral reefs. The first true conifers and ginkgo trees spread across the land. The period ended with another mass extinction, paving the way for the Jurassic and the golden age of dinosaurs.
