RARE Ceratites Sublaevigatus Fossil Ammonite – Middle Triassic, Ganheim, Germany – 100% Genuine with Certificate of Authenticity
£60.00Original price was: £60.00.£54.00Current price is: £54.00.
This Ceratites sublaevigatus fossil ammonite is an exceptional specimen from the Middle Triassic period, discovered in Ganheim, Germany. The Ceratites genus is known for its distinctive coiled shell and smooth surface, making it an important fossil for both collectors and researchers. This Ceratites ammonite provides a valuable insight into the marine life during the Triassic period and is a unique addition to any fossil collection.
Geological Information:
Geological Stage: Middle Triassic (Approximately 247 to 237 million years ago)
Depositional Environment: During the Middle Triassic, the Earth saw the recovery of life following the Permian-Triassic mass extinction. The Ganheim region in Germany was once part of the shallow seas that covered much of Europe during the Triassic, where ammonites like Ceratites thrived. Fossils from this region provide a fascinating look into the early recovery and diversification of marine life after the extinction event.
Biozone: Fossils from the Middle Triassic biozone are important for understanding the marine ecosystems of the time. This period was marked by the rise of ammonites and other marine creatures as the Earth’s ecosystems began to stabilize following the end-Permian mass extinction.
Fossil Features:
Family: Ceratitidae
Super Family: Ammonoidea
Order: Ammonitida
Morphology: The Ceratites sublaevigatus ammonite features a distinctively ribbed and smooth shell with a moderate coiling pattern. Its shell has a smooth texture with well-defined ribbing, and the suture lines are clearly visible. The evolute coiling and overall shape make this fossil a prime example of Middle Triassic ammonites. The ammonite’s shell provides excellent details of the evolution of these remarkable creatures during this early part of the Mesozoic Era.
Zone: The fossil was found in the Middle Triassic zone, which helps date this ammonite to a critical period in the history of ammonite evolution.
Notable Details:
This fossil is 100% GENUINE and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring its authenticity and value.
The specimen has been carefully selected for its high-quality preservation. The photograph shows the actual specimen you will receive, offering full transparency in your purchase.
Scale Rule: The scale cube shown in the photo represents 1cm, allowing you to accurately gauge the size of the fossil. Full sizing details are available in the photograph.
Condition:
This Ceratites sublaevigatus fossil ammonite is in excellent condition, showcasing its distinctive ribbing, smooth surface, and well-preserved suture lines. The fossil has been cleaned and treated for display, making it an ideal addition to any Triassic ammonite collection or for those interested in the marine life of the Middle Triassic period.

Triassic Information
The Triassic Period (252–201 million years ago) marked the beginning of the Mesozoic Era, following the Permian-Triassic mass extinction, the most severe extinction event in Earth's history. The climate was hot and dry, with vast deserts and little polar ice. Life slowly recovered, leading to the rise of the first dinosaurs, pterosaurs (flying reptiles), and early mammals. Reptiles, including large archosaurs (ancestors of crocodiles and dinosaurs), dominated both land and sea. In the oceans, ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs thrived alongside ammonites and early coral reefs. The first true conifers and ginkgo trees spread across the land. The period ended with another mass extinction, paving the way for the Jurassic and the golden age of dinosaurs.
