Description
This is a rare Cretiscapellum glabrum fossil barnacle fragment from the Cenomanian stage of the Cretaceous period, discovered in Southerham Grey Pit, South East England. Barnacles belong to the Cirripedia subclass and are marine crustaceans known for their hard calcareous shells and sessile lifestyle. Fossilised barnacles provide valuable insight into ancient marine ecosystems, as they were often found attached to rocks, shells, or even marine reptiles.
