Offered here is a RARE Chalk Fossil Ammonite of the species Cunningtoniceras inerme, from the Middle Cenomanian Stage of the Cretaceous Period. This remarkable specimen was discovered in Glynde, Sussex, United Kingdom, and originates from the prestigious Alice Purnell Collection, known for its scientifically significant and well-documented specimens.

Paleontological Context: Cunningtoniceras inerme is a species within the Acanthoceratidae Family, a group of heteromorph and planispiral ammonites. This species is used in biostratigraphy and helps define ammonite zones in Cenomanian sequences of Europe. It is a distinctive member of the Cunningtoniceras genus, known for its smooth morphology compared to other more ornamented relatives.

Marine life flourished, including mosasaurs, ammonites, and rudist reefs, while the land was ruled by iconic dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Spinosaurus. Mammals and birds diversified, and insects thrived. The period ended with the mass extinction event, likely caused by an asteroid impact, wiping out the dinosaurs and paving the way for the rise of mammals in the Cenozoic.
